Sovereign Gold Bonds Eligible for Premature Redemption From Oct 28, 2026
Holders of SGB 2020-21 Series I can redeem bonds early on October 28, 2026, at prices based on recent gold rates.
The Reserve Bank of India announced that Sovereign Gold Bonds issued during the 2020-21 Series I, with an issue date of April 28, 2020, are now eligible for premature redemption on October 28, 2026. This is in line with the Government of India's notification allowing early redemption after five years on interest payment dates. The redemption price will be calculated as the simple average of the closing price of 999 purity gold over the three business days preceding the redemption date, providing bondholders with a transparent and fair valuation mechanism.
